Charli D’Amelio Biography

Who is Charli D’Amelio? Charli Grace D’Amelio was born on May 1, 2004 (age 18), in Norwalk, Connecticut. She is the youngest daughter of Marc D’Amelio and Heidi D’Amelio. Her father was a former Republican candidate for the Connecticut senate. Her mother is a former model and photographer. She has an older sister, Dixie D’Amelio, who also creates TikTok content. Dixie now has more than 50 million subscribers in TikTok as well.

Charli says her life has changed a lot since she became a TikTok personality. She said she started uploading short dance videos on TikTok just for the fun of it. She said she didn’t really pay attention to what other people thought about her videos. She had to switch to one-on-one online schooling so she can have a more flexible schedule.

Charli D’Amelio shares how she used to feel uncomfortable at first when people would walk up to her and ask for a picture. Friends who were with her were a bit puzzled or even weirded out by these random requests. They’d ask her where she comes from, half-wondering whether they were with a celebrity. Charli did not rise to fame overnight. Every now and then, a friend would tell her she was on their ‘For You’ page on TikTok. And she’d tell them that yes, it was her on TikTok

Rise To Fame

Charli D’Amelio downloaded the TikTok app in May 2019. The first video she uploaded was a video of her lip-syncing with a friend. Some months later, she uploaded a short dance video. It featured her doing a side-by-side video with another user, Move With Joy. People began to notice her when they saw the video.

She eventually gained more exposure in October 2019. She did the Renegade dance number with the song entitled ‘Lottery’ by the K Camp group. Following their rising fame from this video, she teamed up with her sister, Dixie, to join the Hype House. This is a group composed of teenage TikTok celebrities who were based in Los Angeles.

It was around this time when her family sold their home in Connecticut and moved to the West Coast where they seemed to have more opportunities. Charli D’Amelio continued to gain more fame. By late 2019, she reached a whole new level of popularity. Entertainment executives began to take notice. She was signed up by Barbara Jones to her own management company known as Outshine Talent. Barbara Jones is an executive of Sony Music.

Charli also signed up under United Talent Agency. Shortly after that, she was invited by Sabra Hummus to take part in a Super Bowl commercial. She was asked to come up with a TikTok dance challenge, which was aimed to be a reprise of Jennifer Lopez’s Super Bowl halftime dance number.

50 Million TikTok Followers, Then 100 Million

By March 2020, Charli overtook Loren Gray who used to have the most number of TikTok followers up until that point. She also reached 50 million followers on TikTok, becoming the first on TikTok to garner that many followers. By November 2020, Charli breached 100 million followers. Again, she was the first to reach this number of followers on the platform.

Mainstream Media And Entertainment

With her rapid rise to fame on TikTok, mainstream entertainment and mass media would soon take note of her and invite her to appear in television films and specials. She was invited by Nickelodeon to appear on ‘#Kids Together: The Nickelodeon Town Hall’. Not to be outdone, ABC also asked her to appear on ‘The Disney Family Together.’ She was also included in the star-powered cast of ‘Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020.’

Within that same year, Chali D’Amelio was cast in her film debut. She starred as Tinker in ‘StarDog and TurboCat,’ a children’s animated film. She also produced her own reality series in her YouTube vlog channel, dubbed ‘Dinner with the D’Amelios’. Hulu also signed her up to produce ‘The D’Amelio Show’ where she appears with the rest of her family.

Brand Endorsements

A number of commercial brands and products were also quick to sign her up as an endorser of their products.  Invisalign, a clear braces company, signed her up as a brand ambassador. Morphe Cosmetics signed her up for their makeup products. For this, she teamed up with her sister, Dixie, and they came up with their own makeup line which they called the Morphe 2.

She also teamed up with her sister for a nail polish collection. They called it the Coastal Craze. They also created the Social Tourist line for Hollister.

Charity, Advocacy, And Philanthropy

From the earliest stages of her newfound fame, Charli shared with her followers that she had an eating disorder. She also told them that she went through body shaming when she was younger. With her following already way past 100 million by 2020, she reached out to UNICEF. They then signed up a partnership to launch a campaign against bullying.

Charli has been a vocal and consistent supporter of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement. When news of the death of George Floyd (who was choked to death) exploded on the internet, she openly spoke out against it on TikTok.

When she was still starting, she organized a fundraiser in 2019 to help people with special needs. She was able to raise more than $7,000. Wanting to give back something to her hometown neighborhood in Norwalk, Connecticut, she also donated $50,000 to Norwalk Hospital at the height of the pandemic. She said she hoped it would help them buy much-needed medical supplies.

Within the same year, she launched a partnership with TikTok. They donated a total of $100,000 to the American Dance Movement, an organization that provides access and resources for people who want to learn dancing.
